PASTOR CRAIG’S NOTES For many years there has been an on-going debate as to which event in the life of Jesus was the most important in regards to the church and the body of Christ. Was the incarnation of God into human form during the advent more important than the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus the Christ? Most of the time the debate comes down to a personal opinion as to which event we like the most; Christmas or Easter. I would suggest that both events are on an equal plane. Both events point beyond the physical and historical actions of the people involved, and show the power of God*s love for each and everyone of us. As the sage of old once asked, *What is man, that you are mindful of him?* If we miss the fact that the God of the Universe, the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, Solomon, Ruth, Joshua, Deborah, Esther, Matthew, John, Mark, Luke, Peter, Judas and all of us loves us, then we cannot possibly understand Christmas or Easter. They become just another holiday on the calendar. But when we see and understand the great love that our God has for us, we understand not only our relationship with God but also our relationship with others and all of creation. For God so love us that God came and died for us and then rose from the grave all in the name of Love. Remember all of those on our prayer list. Praying for you as I hope that you are praying for me. We will meet Sunday April 15, at 5:00 pm at the church. This is always a great time of fellowship and sharing for the women of our congregation. There is a snack supper provided by the hostess of the month followed by a lesson prepared by Alice Cochran. All women of the church are invited and encouraged to attend the monthly meetings. SCOUT SUNDAY 2007 February 4, 2007 was the annual observance of Scout Sunday. During a special service five scouts received their God and Church medals. Two Boy Scouts, Conner Rutherford and Alex Hudson, and three Girl Scouts, Morgan Hudson, Sarah Ward and Chelsi Campbell. To receive this award each scout participates in a six week study with a certified counselor. We are very fortunate to have two counselors in our congregation. Carla Hudson received her counselor pin last year and Craig Rutherford received his this year. 99TH BIRTHDAY RECEPTIONFOR AGNES ANDERSON The Family of Agnes Anderson invites you to a reception celebrating her 99th birthday Sunday April 8, 2007 First Christian Church, Marietta 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm Agnes Mae Randolph was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on April 13, 1908. She married Andy Anderson in 1929 and began her family. Agnes and Andy had two daughters Alice and Charlotte. Charlotte passed away in 1988. Together, the Andersons traveled throughout the United States setting up Western Auto stores. They came to Marietta in November of 1939 and joined the Presbyterian Church. Agnes started playing the piano for Sunday School and began piano and organ lessons in the county. Andy and Agnes opened a Western Auto Store and Agnes helped manage and operate the store. Her husband Andy died in 1973. Agnes began playing the organ for the First Christian Church in the 1950's and she kept playing for Sunday School at the Presbyterian Church. Agnes joined First Christian Church in the late 70's when Bo Midkiff became the minister. She continued playing the organ for 30 years before retiring. She continued teaching piano and organ lessons in the county for 50 years while keeping the store open. Agnes was very active in CWF and cooking for the Lions Club. They were big contributors to the building of the new church. Agnes attended every Women's retreat until it got too difficult for her to attend. She and her daughter Alice did the music and singing one year at retreat. Agnes served as Worship, Membership and Evangelism Chairman in the church and did a great job with each. Upon her retirement, she left the organ playing to Charles Hudson. The church has always been an important part of Agnes's life. Today Agnes's family consists of her daughter and son-in-law Alice and Jerry Cochran. Seven grandchildren and spouses, sixteen great-grand children and numerous great-great grand children. SPECIAL OFFERING FOR THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY Dear Church Family: If you are like me, you live on a budget and have to plan for upcoming events. Well, I am asking you to start planning. By a suggestion given to the Worship Team by a member of the church, we will be hosting a "Love Offering" to be given to The American Cancer Society. Many of us in the last few months have been touched by cancer. Some directly, some in-directly. As a result, we've lost loved ones and friends and we've rejoiced in the healing and/or remission of others. On June 3rd and June 10th, we will accept donations to ACS. Envelopes will be placed in the pews and can be placed in the offering plate. You can specify either a memorial or in honor of, or you can give a donation with no name. The American Cancer Society will receive all funds given with a list of names that are specified. You may also give your donation directly to Curtis or Beth. This is our opportunity as a church family to help support an organization that is for the good of many. Thanks for your consideration. Worship Committee DYF - KIDS IN CHRIST GARAGE SALE On April 7th, from 8am-1pm, the Disciples Youth and Kids in Christ will host a garage sale under the church drive. All proceeds will go directly into the Youth Fund to help pay for camps this summer. If you have any items that are worthy for a garage sale that you would like to donate, we would be glad to take it off your hands. You can either bring you items to the church or contact me to arrange for pickup. As always, both groups appreciate your continued support. Carla Hudson CANDY NEEDED FOR EASTER EGG HUNT The Annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held on April 1st after church and prior to Kids in Christ. We have baskets and some plastic eggs. WE NEED CANDY that will easily fit into the eggs. If you would like to donate candy, just leave it in the kitchen at church or give it to Carla, Skye, Carrie or Ro. You can also bring plastic eggs already filled with candy if you so choose. (We've typically had about 200 eggs to hide. I currently have about 100) You are a kind and gracious people.
